Pro-R Alcon Brake Upgrade

Today we had a 2004 JDM STi in for a front brake upgrade. The car gets a fair amount of track use, and the customer was looking for an upgrade that could offer a significant improvement over the original Brembo 4 pot caliper setup.

A Pro-R Alcon Brake Kit was sourced, which consists of 6 pot monobloc calipers,  365 x 32mm floating discs, Ferodo pads,  braided hoses and all the required mounting hardware.

A test fit was carried out, inserting supplied shims behind the mounting brackets until correct centralisation of the caliper over the disc was achieved. The kit was then fully installed, and a litre of Motul DOT 5.1 brake fluid bled through the system.

After installation, all the new components were thoroughly cleaned and degreased with brake cleaner, the wheels were refitted and the car taken out for a road test, to carry out the bedding in procedure.

Initial impressions were very good, the bite was very sharp, and braking power very progressive with increased pedal pressure. – They will no doubt be standing up to some serious trackday punishment in the near future.
