Oil Leaks

Rocker Covers – If you can smell burning oil when driving, the chances are you have a leaking RH rocker cover gasket. It’s a very simple problem to address and put right, and we always recommend replacing all the gaskets, bolt seals and plastic half moon plugs with genuine Subaru parts.

Front Main Oil Seal

If you have oil leaking from the centre of the Cambelt covers its most likely from the front main oil seal. Quite often this can go unnoticed and it’s always a good idea to replace the seal when changing the timing belt.

Rear Main Oil Seal / Crankcase Breather Plate

The rear main seal and breather plate are 2 sources of oil leaks into the bell housing, and can cause contamination of the clutch plate.  Many of the model years are fitted with a plastic plate which is a very common failure point. This can be upgraded to either an aluminium or steel version which are much less prone to leaking. It’s a labour intensive job to resolve, so we always recommend replacement of the oil seal and reselling the breather plate when replacing the clutch.

Power Steering Pump

The power steering is often overlooked for fluid changes and this can be a cause of premature pump failure. Often it starts as a misting of oil over the pump body which can develop into a noticeable leak and heavy steering. Unfortunately this is an expensive part to replace with many of the pumps costing over £500.
